A friend of mine just finished her PhD, so a few of us had a girl's night out to celebrate. We picked up dinner, then headed down to Forest Park to watch Othello. I wasn't previously familiar with the play, but I really enjoyed it. As much as you can with a Shakespeare tragedy, anyways (I realized the next day as I was recounting the tale to the boys just how terrible it was...so much unwarranted murder!). I will forever be impressed with Shakespearean actors though- those lines! How does anyone keep them all in their head?
I've also been somewhat busy trying to figure out how to do a "Lego party" for Benjamin. It's coming up this Friday and I've got most everything squared away, but this will be my first attempt at a real friends party. Benjamin has been to a bunch of his friends' parties this year, and all of them have been at party places and pools. Part of me thinks that would just be easier, but I guess I'm my mother's daughter in that respect. She always had fun, organized friend parties for us- and all at home. I just don't know if I could do this eight times, every other year like she did...in any case, if my love for my children is ever in question, the above picture should be counted as evidence that I do (and also evidence that my hair is in a very awkward stage right now...somewhere between a pixie and an A-line). Paper Mache-ing is a LOT of work!
I believe you! That DOES look like a lot of work! You are one loving mom. :)
ReplyDeleteWow. We've been going through the birthday season here of late, and it's a stressful time. We've been doing some soul-searching and communicating about what we can do realistically. Hopefully everyone will keep smiling. Happy early birthday to Benjamin! And good luck with all the last-minute preparations. I agree. Mom was truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing? Mostly frazzled. That's why I cried when I found I was expecting baby #8 in January. (Gratefully that baby got postponed.) Sarah, that pinata is amazing! What did you use to make the bumps? Wish I could peek in on this birthday party! It's always more fun to have it at home and make the effort to personalize it to the child. I loved all your birthday parties, even if I was frazzled.
